Fulcrum Impact
I collaborated with a multidisciplinary team, including the CEO, data scientists, and a back-end developer, to design the UI and build a prototype for a business intervention evaluation platform at a major healthcare organization. The application was intended for internal use and planned for future release as a standalone commercial product.
The tool helped stakeholders evaluate the effectiveness of business interventions, combining complex analytical models with a user-friendly interface for non-technical users.
“Fulcrum Impact is a first-of-its-kind product that allows companies’ own data science teams access to make intervention measurement significantly more efficient, accurate, and repeatable. By providing a repository of code, analyses, and reporting templates, it enables disparate teams to effectively generate faster insights for better decision making.” - Fulcrum Analytics Website
Team Challenges:
Balancing shifting priorities between a client-facing prototype and long-term internal product development
Understanding and translating a highly complex and domain-specific conceptual model into an intuitive user experience
Solutions & Approach:
We prioritized immediate client needs while documenting and flagging future features for subsequent internal product sprints, ensuring short-term delivery did not compromise long-term product vision.
To align the team, we developed conceptual modeling documentation and held internal knowledge-sharing sessions to establish a shared vocabulary and understanding of the system’s logic and workflows. This helped bridge the gap between data science concepts and product design decisions.
Personal Challenge & Growth:
With limited prior exposure to the healthcare domain, I needed to rapidly ramp up on industry concepts while also learning a sophisticated conceptual model underlying the tool.
In addition to UI design, I led front-end development using web technologies and Python, working with unfamiliar libraries and frameworks. I iterated quickly, learned on the fly, and delivered functional prototypes while deepening my technical skill set.
This project strengthened my ability to translate complex technical systems into clear, usable interfaces while operating across design and engineering responsibilities.
